Wish I was there...

On Memorial Day, most of my family and extended family got together for the yearly tradition of going to Parker, Idaho cemetery to pay respects to our grandma, great grandparents, great uncle, and uncle's graves. It's a very special day of the year that we all look forward to. It turns out to be a great big reunion where we are able to rekindle our love as family. This year, everyone went up to put flowers on the graves and also to make a much needed visit to my Grandpa Neilson. I wish I was there, as this may be the last visit to see him. He isn't doing very well and is suffering from multiple things. He has passed two strokes and is now loosing his eyesight, memory, and strength. I want to go see him again so bad incase i'll never have the chance again...but at the same time I still want my last visit that I had with him to be when I came to visit him for Christmas this past December. I rang the door bell and was greeted by my teary-eyed grandfather answering the door and kissing me on the cheek. I have so many fond memories of him and am so blessed to have gotten to know him as well as I did. It's sometimes really hard to see him aging like this, but at the same time, it's happy to know he will be reuniting again with the love of his life up in heaven. My cousin did a wonderful little post on her blog at http://www.fabfrankes.blogspot.com/ about Memorial Day weekend and Grandpa's visit. She said everything so perfectly! I have such a wonderful extended family and have been so blessed to grow up closely with 43 first cousins, 2 uncles, and 4 aunts! I love our big happy family!

What a beautiful post. You made me tear up. My grandpa hasn't been doing great lately either, so I understand where you're coming from. (((HUGS)))

I know how it feels to have a grandparent slipping away. The last memory I have of your Grandfather was when he gave me my P. blessing. He is a fantastic guy! Tell your family hello for me.
